Veselin Petrovic

Veselin Petrović (born September 6, 1929 in Vlasenica ; † November 8, 1995 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav cyclist and national cycling champion .

Athletic career

During the Second World War , he moved to Belgrade and began cycling as a teenager. He was seven times Yugoslav champion in various disciplines. In 1953 and 1956 he won the road race title . In 1957 and 1959 he was also on the podium at the championships. In his career he won over 100 races and represented his country in 82 international competitions. Petrović was the winner of the Tour de Macedonia 1951 and the Tour of Yugoslavia in 1954. He started in the road race at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and finished 26th. In 1960 he was again at the games in Rome and drove the team time trial , with his team taking 15th place. He also drove the Algeria Tour , the Tour of Egypt (a stage win in 1955) and the Tour of Luxembourg for amateurs . The International Peace Tour saw him at the start four times, his best result in the overall ranking was ninth in 1957 .

Professional

Petrović graduated from the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Belgrade with a degree in sports. After his career as a racing cyclist, Veselin Petrović was sports director of the Tour of Yugoslavia and the Tour of Serbia . He was also director of the Yugoslav cycling selection committee, president of the Serbian cycling association and official representative of Yugoslavia in the UCI .
