Nevenko (Nevio) Valčić

Nevenko (Nevio) Valčić (born January 1, 1933 in Loborika near Pula , † February 3, 2007 in Pula) was a cyclist from the former Yugoslavia and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Valčić , who was Croatian , won the road racing championships of Yugoslavia several times (from 1957 to 1959) after winning the title once as a junior. 1953 won the junior race Across Istria . He won the 1958 Tour of Yugoslavia and took second place three times in this tour. Four times he won the stage trip Jadranska Magistrala (later the Istria Spring Trophy ), from 1959 to 1962. In 1960 he started at the Summer Olympics in Rome . He was 31st in the road race and 15th in the team time trial with his team. Overall, he was able to achieve more than 100 victories. In his entire career he started for the cycling club   Veloce-Club Polese Pula (today Cycling Club Pula ). Valčić was a strong stage driver and drove u. a. the International Peace Tour (four times, with the best result in 1957 as 43rd), the country tours of Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Bulgaria and the Tour de l'Avenir .

Honors

Since 2007 there has been a traditional cycling race in Loborika called the Nevio Valcic Memorial. The organizers of the international recreational cycling race Granfondo Nevio Valcic are his children Luciano and Helena Valcic and the Pula cycling club.
