Janez Žirovnik

Janez Žirovnik (born July 30, 1935 in Ljubljana ) is a former cyclist from the former Yugoslavia and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Žirovnik was Yugoslav road racing champion in 1960 and 1961, and in 1956 and 1958 he was already third in the championships. In 1959 (as in 1961) he won the Tour of Croatia , a year later he won the Tour of Yugoslavia . He was a participant in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and was able to take a good eighth place in the road race. In the team time trial he was 15. He started for the club KD Rok Ljubljana. He achieved great popularity in 1959, when he secured the success of the national team in the team standings with an energetic performance on the last stage of the Tour of Yugoslavia despite a serious fall. He took part in the International Peace Tour from 1959 to 1961, with 41st place in 1961 being his best result.
