Josip Pavlija
Josip Pavlija (born October 6, 1893 in Zagreb ; † 1969 there ) was a Yugoslav cyclist and national champion in cycling .
Athletic career
Pavlija started for the HBK Sokol Zagreb club. He started cycling in Graz , Austria , where he worked for a while in the Puch factory . After the First World War he returned to Zagreb. He won the first edition of the Yugoslav championship in road racing in 1919. In the following two years he was able to defend the title. In 1922 and 1923 he was then behind Đuro Đukanović second in the championship race. His strengths lay in long-distance races. In the race Vienna – Graz – Vienna (390 km) he came in third place in 1921, he also drove in Vienna – Brno – Vienna (300 km) and Around the Glacier (351 km) on top places.
