Okapi Aalstar is a Belgian basketball club from Aalst .
history
The club was founded in 1949 as Okapi Aalst . In 1994 the company began to develop professional structures and worked with several name sponsors. In 2002, however, the financial reserves of the professional men's team were exhausted and professional gaming was continued as Okapi Aalstar. After the telecommunications provider Belgacom (1997–1999) and the Alken Maes brewery previously acted as name sponsors, the Belgian branch of Assicurazioni Generali has been the name sponsor since 2006 .
Okapi plays in the highest Belgian basketball league, the Ethias League. You play an average role there. The greatest success in the club's history was celebrated after a runner-up in 2011 in 2012 when they won the Belgian basketball cup with former top scorer of the German basketball league Chris Copeland , who then moved to the New York Knicks in the NBA .
The club also took part in the EuroChallenge several times , where it made it into the last 16 clubs in 2010/11.
