Anthony Hilliard (born June 28, 1986 in Fayetteville , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Hilliard turned pro in Europe. After two seasons in Belgium , he played in the 2011/12 Bundesliga for the German first division club Artland Dragons. In the 2012/13 season he played in the second French Pro B league for the former champions Olympique d'Antibes.
Career
After graduating from high school, Hilliard did not receive an athletic scholarship and enrolled in 2005 at Elizabeth City State University , a historically African-American college in Elizabeth City , his home state. Their college team Vikings play in the "Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association" (CIAA) of the NCAA Division II. Hilliard had good statistics on the basketball team and is the first player in the history of this team to collect over 1,000 rebounds in his four-year college career . Hilliard did not make it into the selection of the All-American players of Division II, but in the NABC All-Star Game of the division he was the best player on his team and the only player with a double-double when the East selection was lost in the game. Nevertheless, he had no way of getting a professional contract as a Division II player in the most highly endowed professional league NBA .
Hilliard therefore started a professional career in Europe in 2009 and initially played in the Belgian Ethias League for the RBC from Pepinster . The bottom of the table of the previous year only narrowly missed the place in the play-offs for the Belgian championship due to the poorer direct comparison . Together with his teammate Stanley Burrell , he then moved to the league competitor Okapi Aalstar from Aalst . The table runner-up of the main round 2010/11 then moved into the final series for the championship, in which, however, there was no chance against the then series champion Spirou BC Charleroi and could only be runner-up. For the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 Hilliard then got a contract with the German first division club Dragons from the Artland community . In the quarter-final play-offs of the EuroChallenge 2011/12 they had no chance against the eventual title winner Beşiktaş Milangaz and, as in the previous season, clearly lost to defending champion Brose Baskets in the semi-final series of the championship play-offs . For the subsequent season Hilliard joined the French Antibes for former champions Olympique to the second division LNB Pro B .
