An alternative to the doubles is a so-called five-by-five , which includes at least 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks.

Triple-double ( triple double ) is to increase the double-double and the power referred to a player, the two-digit into three categories statistical values comprising. It is true that triple-double games rare, but still manage some players repeatedly triple-double in a season.

A triple-double is usually seen as an excellent personal achievement and indicates a good all-round game. The most common combination consists of points, rebounds and assists. However, since the 1973/74 season, in which steals and blocks began to be recorded statistically, it has also been possible to achieve triple-doubles with other combinations.

In the past, especially in the NBA, attempts were often made to deliberately avoid hitting the basket in games in which a player only needed a rebound to end with a triple-double in order to allow him a simple rebound and achieve this performance . To prevent this, the NBA introduced a rule that allows no rebound to be awarded if the attempt to throw was clearly not intended to score points.

(List incomplete)

Quadruple double

David Robinson was the last player to achieve a quadruple double in the NBA .

Quadruple-double ( quadruple double ) denotes the performance of a player, the statistical within a game in four categories each obtained two-digit values. Excluded are "negative" statistical categories such as ball losses ( turnover ). Achieving a quadruple-double is extremely rare.

On the one hand, it requires the ability to be active beyond the tasks of the actual position, so that z. B. a center also distributes assists. On the other hand, the player must also manage to score double-digit points in at least one of the two categories of steals and blocks, in which it is extremely difficult to achieve a high number.

In German professional basketball there has never been a quadruple double . So far, there has only been one player in Europe who has managed to achieve one thing: The American Derrick Lewis managed to achieve 20 points, 11 rebounds, 12 steals and 10 blocks in an LNB game .

In the US professional league NBA, too, only four players have so far managed to achieve a quadruple double :

1 Larry Bird sat on the bench for the entire fourth quarter.
2 In the score sheet, 9 assists were initially indicated. As a result, Houston Rockets officials watched the game again and found a previously undiscovered assist in the first quarter and had thescore sheet corrected so that Olajuwonwould have scoreda
quadruple double with a total of 10 assists. As a result, NBA manager Rod Thorn requested thatthe video be viewed again, after which the additional assist was canceled and the number of 9 became official.

It should be noted, however, that blocks and steals have only been counted in the NBA since the 1973/74 season. It can therefore not be ruled out that some players have already managed a quadruple double beforehand . This is especially true of the then outstanding players Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Oscar Robertson.

Quintuple double

A quintuple-double ( five-fold double ) describes the performance of a player who achieves double-digit values in all five positive statistical categories within a game. This maximum "double performance" has not yet been achieved by any professional player anywhere in the world. For this a perfect all-round performance is required, whereby the player should show a very good offensive performance on the one hand and also have to be dominant on the defensive . Achieving 10 steals and 10 blocks is considered particularly difficult, as this requires a very good eye and excellent timing in defense .

The first known quintuple double in the youth field was achieved by today's US WNBA player Tamika Catchings . She scored 25 points, 18 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and 10 blocks in the 1997 Duncanville High School jersey . Add to that the fact that a quarter of high school only lasts 8 minutes. These are 20% ( FIBA , BBL ) and 33% (NBA) less than in the professional sector. The second quintuple double was scored by Aimee Oertner at Northern Lehigh High School (Slatington, Pennsylvania) on January 7, 2012. She got 26 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals and 11 blocks.

Five-by-five

A five-by-five (German about five over five ) is a special achievement that is achieved with at least 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks. This is a simpler alternative to the quintuple-double , which requires at least 10 in each statistical category. Since steals and blocks have only been recorded since the 1973/74 season, it has only been possible to detect such a performance since then. Only Hakeem Olajuwon (six times) and Andrei Kirilenko (three times) have managed to score five-by-five several times since the 1985/86 season. These two are also the only ones who have been able to achieve a five-by-six so far , which requires a value of 6 in each category.
