Baron Davis (born April 13, 1979 in Santa Monica , California ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA between 1999 and 2012 . Davis was a two-time NBA All-Star during his career in the NBA and was once elected to the All-NBA Third Team . He also led the league twice in steals .

Career

1999-2005

Davis was selected third by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1999 NBA Draft . Prior to his professional career, he attended the University of California in Los Angeles.

During his time with the Hornets, Davis was invited to the NBA All-Star Game in 2002 and 2004 and reached the playoffs five times between 2000 and 2005 . In 2003/04 he also played the best season of his career with 22.9 points, 7.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.

Golden State Warriors (2005-2008)

During the 2004/05 season Davis was transferred to the Golden State Warriors for Speedy Claxton and Dale Davis . The Warriors initially failed to achieve sporting success.

With the signing of Don Nelson as their new coach, the Warriors developed a fast-paced basketball that Davis benefited from. The Warriors thus reached the playoffs in 2007, where they played as eighth-placed team against the Dallas Mavericks . Davis played a decisive role in the first-round playoff defeat of the Dallas Mavericks to Dirk Nowitzki , the Davis' Warriors lost 2 to 4 wins. He led his team superbly, designed the game, played essential passes, regularly scored 30 points or more, and defended very well. In Game 5, Davis pulled a muscle strain in his thigh, which did not prevent him from playing again in Game 6 and ultimately sealing the elimination of the Mavericks. Despite the surprise success in the first play-off round, the end against Utah Jazz came in the second round . On January 18, 2008 Davis put in the game against the Chicago Bulls , with 40 points on his career best.

Los Angeles Clippers (2008-2011)

In July 2008, Baron Davis surprisingly drew an exit option that included his contract and announced that he wanted to leave the Golden State Warriors and join the Los Angeles Clippers , where he then signed a contract in late July. Davis wanted to play with Elton Brand . However, after signing his contract, Brand signed with the Philadelphia 76ers . Davis could no longer build on his good performance from Warrior times with the Clippers and missed the playoffs with the Clippers in 2009 and 2010.

Since 2011

On February 24, 2011, he was transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Mo Williams . The Cavaliers used the amnesty clause in the new NBA collective agreement and sacked him before the 2011/2012 season.

Davis then signed a contract with the New York Knicks . There, alongside Carmelo Anthony , Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire, he should ensure that the Knicks play for the championship. After recovering from an injury, Davis was named to the Knicks' starting five . There he replaced the injured Jeremy Lin . The Knicks made it to the playoffs and faced the Miami Heat in the first round . In the fourth game in the series, he tore his cruciate ligament and the patellar tendon in his right knee and had to take a break for about a year.

This was followed by several comeback attempts by Davis, which failed. Davis most recently played in the NBA Development League D-League for the Delaware 87ers .

Style of play

Baron Davis was known for his aggressive style of play early on in his professional career. After he often attacked the basket in his early days, he gradually developed into a classic point guard . Later, as expected from a development player, he gave more assists , was a good ball thief and also found himself in the front seats in the rebound statistics of the pointguards.

Personal

In addition to basketball, Baron Davis also works as a film producer.

Baron Davis played a private school in Santa Monica for Crossroads High School after the Santa Monica High School coach saw no potential in him and did not accept him on the school team.

In 2012, Davis starred in the movie The Chaos Dad (Original Title: That's My Boy ) in a guest role a physical education teacher.
