Edrice Femi "Bam" Adebayo (born July 18, 1997 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American basketball player of Nigerian descent who has been part of the Miami Heat in the NBA since 2017 . He became an NBA All-Star for the first time in the 2019/20 season .
Player career
High school and college
During his school days at Northside High School in Pinetown (US state North Carolina ), and later at the High Point Christian Academy based in the same state, Adebayo was particularly drawn to his physique and spectacular style of play, his jumping ability, his strengths in rebound and in the Defense work as well as its highly valued development potential attracted the attention of numerous well-known universities. Adebayo was invited to the “2016 McDonald's All-American Game” and the “Jordan Brand Classic”, where some of the greatest hopes for young talent in US basketball meet.
In November 2015, he announced his decision to accept a University of Kentucky scholarship offer to play under head coach John Calipari , who has brought a variety of talent to the NBA over the course of his career . He had convinced him that Calipari wanted to help him to reach the next career level, i.e. the NBA , said Adebayo on the occasion of his decision.
In his first and only game year at college level , Adebayo was on Kentucky's starting line-up in all 38 games of the season in 2016/17. He scored an average of 13 points and eight rebounds per encounter and recorded 1.5 blocked opposing throws per game. He advanced with the "blue-whites" among the top eight teams in the NCAA . The 2016/17 season hit Adebayo and his colleagues at the end of March 2017 against North Carolina (73:75).
After his first year at the University of Kentucky, he decided to make the leap to professionalism and signed up for the NBA draft .
NBA career
Adebayo was selected in 14th place in the 2017 NBA draft by the Miami Heat , who officially signed him on July 1, 2017. He made his first appearances in the jersey of the Florida team in the NBA Summer League in Orlando and Las Vegas.
In his debut season in the NBA 2017/18 , Adebayo was particularly convincing in defense. He was used in 69 games of the main round and scored an average of 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per encounter. In five playoff games, his values fell to 3.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
