Duncan McBryde Robinson (born April 22,  1994 in York , Maine ) is an American basketball player who is under contract with the Miami Heat in the NBA .

career

Robinson grew up on the island of New Castle in the US state of New Hampshire . He played basketball for the team at The Governor's Academy, Massachusetts , before moving to Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire.

In 2013, Robinson began his university career at Williams College in the NCAA Third Division. He reached the final of the national championship with the team, but lost there. Robinson was a top performer for Williams with an average of 17.1 points per encounter and hit 81 of his 179 three-point throws. He was named the best newcomer to the league (English: rookie ) of the year of the NCAA 3. After a successful first year at college, Robinson considered moving to a university in the first NCAA division. His coach Mike Maker, who left Williams for Marist College after the end of the 2013-14 season, recommended Robinson to then head coach of the University of Michigan , John Beilein . Maker had once been Beilein's assistant at West Virginia University . Robinson made the move to Michigan, but was not allowed to participate in the game, but only in the practice operation, due to the transfer regulations in the 2014/15 season.

In 2015 he made his debut in the shirt of the University of Michigan, the team at that time also included the German Moritz Wagner . Robinson played a total of 115 games for Michigan through 2018 and scored 9.3 points per game. He hit 237 three-point throws in 565 attempts and thus achieved a good hit rate of 41.9 percent. In the 2017/18 season, Robinson was Michigan's team captain, and he was also named “best sixth man” in the Big Ten , an honor for the best substitute player of the season. He was runner-up in the NCAA with the university team in spring 2018. This made him the first player to take part in both the first and third NCAA division finals.

NBA

In the NBA draft process in June 2018, Robinson was not taken into account, but in July 2018 he signed a "two-way contract" with the NBA team Miami Heat , which also allowed him to play in the training league , the NBA G-League . Previously, Robinson had shown convincing performances in the NBA summer league .

He became the first former player of a college of the third NCAA division since Devean George (1999/2000 season), who was used in an NBA game. In April 2019, his "two-way contract" was converted by the Miami Heat into a normal NBA contract after he had scored 3.3 points per use in the 2018/19 game year.
