Kelly Olynyk (born April 19, 1991 in Toronto ) is a Canadian basketball player who is currently under contract with the Miami Heat . He comes from a basketball family, his father coached the University of Toronto and the Canadian junior team.

college

From 2009 to 2013, Olynyk played for the Gonzaga Bulldogs , the Gonzaga University team , where he played with the German international Elias Harris . The 2011/12 season put Olynyk out completely, but returned the following season as one of the best players in the NCAA . He was named Player of the Year for the West Coast Conference , the Consensus All-America First Team and the Academic All-America First Team . During his college years, Olynyk also took part with the Canadian national team in the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 American Championship .

NBA

Boston Celtics

In the 2013 NBA Draft , Olynyk was selected 13th by the Dallas Mavericks . Shortly after his selection, Olynyk was transferred to the Boston Celtics for the rights to Lucas Nogueira and two future second-round draft picks . On July 7, 2013, he signed a rookie contract with the Boston Celtics after scoring 25 points on his debut in the NBA Summer League . In his rookie season he was used in 70 games and scored 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . His second season he finished slightly improved with an average of 10.3 points, but could not play in the starting line-up of the Celtics. He also reached the playoffs with the Celtics. In the other two years with the Celtics, Olynyk could not play in the starting five of the team. Even so, he took on an important role as a rotation player with the Celtics. In all four years with the Boston franchise, he averaged about 20 minutes of play, scored 9.5 points and got 4.7 rebounds per game. His rookie contract expired in the summer of 2017. Due to the signing of Gordon Hayward , the Celtics no longer had enough salary margin to offer Olynyk a contract extension.

Miami Heat

In the 2017 Free Agency, Olynyk signed a four-year $ 50 million deal with the Miami Heat , holding a player option last year.
