Emilio Bontà

Emilio Bontà (born May 6, 1882 in Personico ; † November 13, 1953 in Faido ) was a Swiss teacher and local researcher .

Life

Emilio Bontà was the son of Carlo Giuseppe Bontà and his wife Maria, geb. Cislini. He received his diploma in 1902 at the teachers 'college in Locarno and initially worked as a primary school teacher and then from 1907 to 1915 as a teacher of history, geography and Italian literature at the teachers' college in Locarno; from 1916 to 1942 he was a teacher at the high school in Lugano . Emilio Bontà was married to Giulia Bazzi.

Working as a local researcher

Emilio Bontà was not only a researcher of history and place names, but also tried to pass on his historical knowledge and therefore published numerous articles in Ticino magazines and newspapers.

His most important work, La Leventina nel Quattrocento. L'assedio di Bellinzona e la battaglia di Giornico, 1478 published in 1929; it is about the conflicts between the Duchy of Milan and the confederates over the rule over the Ticino areas in the 15th century.

In 1931 he published a bibliography of the writings of the historian Emilio Motta , who also dealt very intensively with the canton of Ticino.

Emilio Bontà published an anthology on historiography in Ticino in 1936 and a history book for secondary schools in 1945 on the period 1763-1815.

He also dealt with the Ticino dialects, such as the spazzacamini , the language of the chimney sweep children .
