Personico is a municipality in the Giornico district , in the Leventina district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

The village of Personico is located on the valley floor on the shady side of the Leventina . The side valleys Val d'Ambra, Val Marcri and Val Nèdro also belong to the municipality.

The municipality borders Bodio to the north, Pollegio to the northeast, Biasca to the east, Iragna to the south, Lavertezzo to the southwest, Frasco to the west and Giornico to the northwest .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1227 under the then name Prexonego . Personico used to belong to the vicinia di Basso (Giornico). In 1600 Personico, Bodio and Pollegio formed a vicinia, which existed as a corporation until 1803. Ecclesiastically, the village first belonged to Biasca and before 1570 became an independent parish.
