Until April 9, 2016, Sobrio was a political municipality in the Giornico district , in the Leventina district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . On April 10, 2016, Sobrio merged with Faido to form the new political municipality of Faido.

geography

The small mountain village of Sobrio is located on a terrace on the left slope of the Leventina Valley at the north-west foot of the Matro mountain (2172m above sea level) and consists of the two districts of Villa and Ronzano . The parish church of St. Lorenzo is located between the two hamlets .

Sobrio is on the Strada Alta . Together with Anzonico, Calonico and Cavagnago, Sobrio forms the so-called Traversa .

history

The village is first mentioned in 1225 under the then name Sourio .

In spring 2004, the residents of Sobrio rejected the merger of their municipality with the district capital Faido in a referendum. The new municipality should have emerged from the merger of the municipalities of Anzonico , Calonico , Calpiogna , Campello , Cavagnago , Chiggiogna , Faido , Mairengo , Osco , Rossura and Sobrio. The project was only accepted by the municipalities of Faido, Chiggiogna, Rossura and Cavagnago. Some of the inhabitants of Sobrio preferred to merge with the municipalities of Giornico , Bodio , Pollegio and Personico of the lower Leventina. Due to its high location, Sobrio can only be reached directly from Lavorgo by road, but not from the communities of the lower Leventina. On April 10, 2016, Sobrio merged with Faido.
