Lavorgo is a village in the political municipality of Faido in the Faido district in the Leventina district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

Lavorgo lies on the valley floor of the Leventina at 615 meters at the upper end of the Biaschina gorge . If you come from the north, Lavorgo is the last village with a northern character and old Leventine wooden houses. Locations on higher terraces can be reached from Lavorgo. These are Calonico , Anzonico , Cavagnago and Sobrio (the so-called Traversa ) on the left and Chironico on the right side of the valley. In Lavorgo there is a regional network control center of Swissgrid that is connected to the electricity transmission system, including a 380 kV / 220 kV substation.

history

Village mentioned as early as 1355; Laorcum 1567. According to the finds made there, it can be assumed that the population must have been relatively dense in Roman and early Christian times. In 1879 6 Roman graves were discovered, in 1881 several graves from the Iron Age; Others emerged in 1882 and 1910.

Community merger

It belonged to the municipality of Chiggiogna until its merger with Faido on January 29, 2006. When Lavorgo received a station for the Gotthard Railway in 1882 , this led to a shift in the focus of the settlement. In the 1950s, the municipal administration was therefore relocated from Chiggiogna to Lavorgo. After the merger of Chiggiogna with Faido, there are still some Faido municipality administrative offices in Lavorgo.
