Williams College
Williams College is a prestigious, private American university in Williamstown , Massachusetts , which was founded as a men's college in 1793 and is now part of the liberal arts colleges. In the 1920s, the name Little Three , which is still used today, was created , under which students from Williams College regularly compete with fellow students from Wesleyan University and Amherst College in the field of sport.
It is one of the most selective colleges in the United States (approximately 17% of applicants are accepted) and was ranked # 1 for colleges in the 2008 US News ranking and ranked # 1 in America's Best Colleges by Forbes magazine 2. Williams College has numerous partnerships with universities abroad, such as Oxford University in England.
Williams College particularly specializes in undergraduate education , meaning that Williams College students study primarily for BA (Bachelor of Arts) and BS (Bachelor of Sciences) degrees. But there are also two Masters courses, in art history and development economics.
There are currently around 1945 undergraduate students and around 59 graduate students enrolled at the university.
As part of a striving for internationalization, Williams College was one of the first US universities to introduce a so-called “need-blind” procedure for international students, which means that foreign applicants are accepted, just like domestic applicants, regardless of their solvency. Williams continues to offer scholarships to all students who successfully pass the selection process and are in need of financial assistance.
