Andre Lloyd Miller (born March 19, 1976 in Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1999 to 2016 . In his 17-year NBA career, Miller only dropped out three games due to injury. With 8,495 assists , Miller is currently 11th on the all-time NBA leaderboard.
College career
Miller played college basketball at the University of Utah for four years . He made an average of 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists during this time . His performance in 1998, including a very rare triple double for an NCAA tournament , led the Utes to the final of the tournament, which was lost to Kentucky . In Utah, Miller played with Keith Van Horn and Michael Doleac , who later became NBA players. Miller ended his career with the Utes as a record player in the steals (254) and the assists (721).
NBA career
Cleveland Cavaliers
Miller was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in eighth position in the 1999 NBA Draft , averaging 11.1 points and 5.8 assists per game in his debut season. In his second season it was 15.8 points per game and 8 assists. He finished his last year as Cavalier with an average of 16.5 points and 10.8 assists per game. During his time with the Cavs, he was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and became the first player in the club's history to be voted “Player of the Week” twice. He set a franchise record for the total number of assists in a season (882) and was the only player in the 2001/02 NBA season to achieve an average of more than 10 assists and points. He also played for the USA national team at the 2002 World Basketball Championship .
Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets
On July 30, 2002, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers with Bryant Stith in exchange for Darius Miles and Harold Jamison . He only played a year with Clippers before signing with the Denver Nuggets . Miller played a major role in rebuilding the nuggets during this period.
Philadelphia 76ers
On December 19, 2006, he was given up by the Nuggets to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of the trade for Star Guard Allen Iverson . Miller's stats went up in several categories, with Miller finishing fourth in total assists (625) and seventh in assists per game (7.8), and 20th in steals per game (1.38) for the 2006/07 season . He also achieved 19 double doubles this season (148 in total in his career). The Sixers had a win record of 7-5 in games in which he had a double-double and 17-8 when he got at least 15 points. He finished the last 35 games with the Sixers in the 2006/07 season with a hit rate of 47.7% from the field and 82.4% from the free throw line.
Portland Trail Blazers
For the 2009/2010 season Miller moved to the Trail Blazers in Portland. There he will lead the team together with Steve Blake and help to reach the play-offs again. At the beginning of the season he could not convince as hoped and was often only brought into play by coach Nate McMillan from the bench. In the middle of the season he became a starter and convinced with good statistics. He led the Blazers to a 114: 112 victory at the Dallas Mavericks with 52 points .
Denver nuggets
Summer 2011 Miller was transferred again to the Denver Nuggets as part of a trade . In return, Raymond Felton moved to Portland. Despite his age, Miller continued to play an important role in the nuggets. On January 3, 2013, Miller scored his 15,000 NBA career point.
Last stops in the NBA
After a disagreement between Miller and the Nuggets, Miller called for a trade. In February 2014, Miller was transferred to the Washington Wizards . He played a year and a half for the Wizards, where he was only used as a replacement for star player John Wall .
Shortly before the end of the 2015 transfer deadline, Miller was traded to the Sacramento Kings by the Wizards . In return, Point Guard Ramon Sessions moved to the capital. During this time Miller got 5.7 points and 4.7 assists per game.
In the summer of 2015, Miller moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves . On February 25, 2016, the Timberwolves canceled the contract with Miller.
On February 29, 2016, the San Antonio Spurs Miller signed, for which he completed the remaining 13 regular season games and 5 playoff games.
The Spurs were Miller's last stop as a professional basketball player. After his active career, he worked as an ambassador for the NBA.
