Darius VaVar Miles (born October 9, 1981 in Belleville , Illinois ) is a retired American basketball player.

Career

After averaging 22.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, 7.4 blocks, 3.4 assists, and 2.4 steals in his senior year of high school, he was the youngest player in the 2000 NBA Draft to finish third from Los Angeles Clippers chosen. For his achievements in his first year as a professional, Miles was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2001 . He stayed with the Clippers until 2002. During this time he could not meet the high expectations and then switched to the Cleveland Cavaliers and after two more years went to Portland to the Portland Trail Blazers , where he had his best athletic time. He achieved his best year in the 2005/06 season with 14.0 points per game. The 2006/07 season he had to sit out completely due to health problems.

He was released from the Portland Trail Blazers on April 15, 2008 after a two-year hiatus. On August 22, 2008, he was taken to another attempt to build on his old performance by the Boston Celtics under contract, but released before the start of the season.

On December 14, 2008, Miles signed a new, non-guaranteed contract with the Memphis Grizzlies . On January 30, he was still signed for the remainder of the 2008-09 NBA season , although the Blazers threatened a lawsuit. The reason is that if he can play a certain number of games, his former team has to pay him a high salary which is at the expense of Portland's salary cap. Miles still signed a contract with the Grizzlies for the rest of the season. After the season, however, he could not find a team and ended his career due to injury complaints.

Others

Miles has appeared in several films. In 2004 he played in Party Animals - ... it doesn't get any wilder than this! a smaller role , as well as a larger role in full dotted lines .

Miles went bankrupt in late 2016, with much of his possessions being auctioned off.
