Robert Lee Parish (born August 30, 1953 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is a retired American basketball player . He played in the North American professional league NBA from 1977 to 1997 and is best known for his time with the Boston Celtics .

The 2.16 meter tall Parish played on the position of the center and formed with power forward Kevin McHale and small forward Larry Bird one of the best front courts NBA history. Parish won three NBA championships with the Celtics and, at the end of his NBA career in 1997, another championship with the Chicago Bulls for superstar Michael Jordan .

Parish has been elected to the All-Star Team nine times during his 21-year career . With 1,611 completed games in the regular season, he holds the NBA record in this category. In 2003 he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .
