Louis "Lou" Campbell (born April 1, 1979 in Rahway , New Jersey ) is a former American basketball player who has played for several clubs in the German basketball league . The father of several families also has Danish citizenship after marrying a Danish woman .

career

Campbell played in the first NCAA division in the Mid-American Conference while he was in college at Buffalo University . One year after Campbell's graduation in 2002, the German international Yassin Idbihi began his studies at this university. At that time Campbell was already playing in Germany in the 2nd basketball league in Paderborn . During his year in Paderborn - his first abroad - he often thought of returning home, Campbell said later. His compatriot Eric Blair, who was under contract with the neighboring club TV Salzkotten at the time, had helped him a lot during this time, Campbell looked back in November 2018. During his two-year time in Paderborn, Campbell recommended himself as one of the strongest players in the second division for higher-class clubs and was brought into the first division by Gießen in 2004 . With Gießen reached the play-off semi- finals for the German championship in the first season and third place in the cup competition in the second season . He then moved to Japan and won the championship title there with Toyota Alvark. In 2007 he had a brief engagement in the second Spanish league LEB Oro at the now dissolved club from Huelva .

In 2009 he was brought back to the Eisbären Bremerhaven in the Bundesliga by his former Paderborn coach Douglas Spradley . With the polar bears, he prepared six basket successes of his fellow men per game and was thus the best template provider in the league. Campbell led Bremerhaven in sixth place in the main round to the semi-finals of the German Championship , where they lost to the Skyliners Frankfurt in the extension of the fifth and decisive game. He then moved to the EWE Baskets from Oldenburg , the German champions in 2009. With Oldenburg, he was eliminated in the first play-off round against Alba Berlin after a rather mediocre season . After that, his contract was terminated, he moved to the 2011/12 BBL season for league rivals Tigers Tübingen, where he was to lead the team as an experienced player and team captain to avoid relegation. After a season in which the primary goal of relegation was achieved, Campbell moved to the French LNB Pro A to Illkirch-Graffenstaden Basket from Strasbourg . There he played under coach Vincent Collet (also France's national coach) and stayed for four years, playing with the team in the EuroLeague . In the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, he completed the main round of the French league with Strasbourg as first in the table. Campbell was runner-up with the team four times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). He won the French Cup with Strasbourg in 2015. At European level, Campbell moved into the EuroCup final in 2016 , where he lost with Strasbourg against Galatasaray Istanbul . In France, he was nicknamed "The General" for his role as a playmaker and strategic skill. At times he was team captain in Strasbourg.

From 2016 he was under contract with another French first division club, Paris-Levallois Basket . After the end of the 2017/18 season with Paris, he strengthened the second division FOS Provence Basket for a few games. During the 2018/19 season he was under contract with Olympique d'Antibes (France's first division).

Campbell led to the connected sides of Eurobasket.com a blog . In the Bundesliga, Campbell played 184 games during his career, his best points average in the league he achieved in 2005/06 when he scored 15.1 per game for Giessen. In France's premier league, Campbell was on the field in 249 games. In 2012/13 he scored 10.3 points per mission for Strasbourg, the highest of his years in the league. The US-American achieved his best mark for templates in the French LNB ProA in Paris (5.1 / game in the 2016/17 season). Campbell caused a sensation during his career with spectacular hoops as well as with his good defensive performances.
