The Federación Española de Baloncesto (FEB) is the national umbrella organization for basketball in Spain . The association organizes the men's competitions for club teams from the LEB Oro (second division) down to the EBA (fourth division) as well as the two highest competitions for women, the Femenina League and the Femenina League 2 . In addition, the FEB is responsible for the activities of the national team for men and women .
history
The Spanish Basketball Federation was founded on July 31, 1923 in Barcelona under the name Federación Española de Basquet-Ball , the first president was Fidel Bricall. In the 1930s there were at times two associations, the FEB based in Barcelona and the Confederación Española de Basketball based in Madrid. The first national championship was held in cup mode in 1933. In 1934 the Federación Española de Baloncesto joined the world association FIBA and shortly thereafter an agreement was reached between the competing federations. In 1935 Gonzalo Aguirre took over the presidency of the FEB and moved the headquarters to the capital Madrid . In 1957, the first championship in league mode was held under the auspices of FEB under the name Liga Española de Baloncesto . From the 1983/84 season, however, the independent league association Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB) took over the organization and marketing of the highest Spanish basketball division, which has since been known as the Liga ACB , and the Copa del Rey . Since then, the FEB has only been responsible for the national competitions below the first division and above the regional leagues at club level, as well as for the activities of the Spanish national teams.
