Anselmo López played in the basketball section of Espanyol Barcelona in the 1930s , from where he moved to the coaching staff of the Catalans. In 1947 he moved to the Spanish Association , where he worked as national coach from 1947 to 1949 and 1952 , but also worked in the sporting management. This is a variant from America, known there as Biddy Basketball , which is played with smaller, lighter balls and lower baskets and is particularly suitable for children. Anselmo López is considered to be one of the fathers of mini basketball in Spain and Europe.

From 1966 to 1971 he was President of the Spanish Basketball Federation. In 1994 he was awarded the FIBA Order of Merit for his services in promoting and developing the sport of basketball .

In addition, Anselmo López also worked from 1966 to 1971 as Vice President and from 1971 to 1984 as Secretary General of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).
