The Comité Olímpico Español (COE) is the National Olympic Committee in Spain , based in Madrid . A total of 35 professional associations for Olympic sports are members of the COE as well as 24 non-Olympic professional associations.

history

Although Spain took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris with a nine-member delegation , it was not until 1912 before the Comité Olímpico Españols was founded. Gonzalo de Figueroa y Torres became the first President of the COE . In the same year the COE was accepted into the International Olympic Committee . Spain's first participation in the Winter Olympics took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 .
