The Liechtenstein Olympic Committee (LOC) is an organization belonging to the Olympic movement and, in accordance with the Sports Act, the umbrella organization for Liechtenstein sports associations and sports clubs.

history

It was founded in 1935 as the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee , and in spring 1992 the Liechtenstein Olympic Sports Association (LOSV) was created through the merger of the FLSV ( Princely Liechtenstein Sports Association ), the LOK (Liechtenstein Olympic Committee) and the SLSH (Liechtenstein Sports Aid Foundation). In December 2013 the LOSV was renamed the “Liechtenstein Olympic Committee”.

Naming

Until December 2013 the LOC was called the Liechtenstein Olympic Sports Association (LOSV). The renaming had become necessary because internationally this name was an exotic one among the other National Olympic Committees. The renaming was part of a renewal of the appearance with a new logo and the signing of a new sports code, which was completed by 2014. Structurally nothing has changed for the associations, but since then they have had the exclusive opportunity to benefit from the brand and the reputation of the Olympic rings by using the logo with the addition “Member of the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee”.

Purpose / task

The purpose of the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee is to promote Liechtenstein sports in popular, competitive and professional sports. It promotes and protects the Olympic Movement and its objectives in Liechtenstein and endeavors to comply with the Olympic Charter and the Olympic rules. In particular, the LOC works to ensure that the Olympic principles are observed in Liechtenstein and that sports teams are trained and prepared for participation in the Olympic Games . The LOC is required to participate in the Olympic Games by sending qualified athletes.

Members

The LOC consists of sports associations and individual clubs and includes, in particular, all state associations that are affiliated to those international associations that are relevant for the sports included in the program of the Olympic Games. Other members are:

  • IOC members with Liechtenstein citizenship
  • Honorary members of the LOC
  • LOC board members
  • Special Olympics
  • Paralympics of the LBV

Governments or other public authorities are not allowed to appoint members to the LOC. However, the LOC may, in its sole discretion, elect to elect representatives from such authorities as members. Membership is excluded for

  • Organizations with a predominantly commercial objective
  • Organizations that predominantly protect professional interests
  • Service organizations and working groups

A total of 49 sports associations and 136 sports clubs with more than 15,000 members are affiliated to the “Liechtenstein Olympic Committee”.

organs

The organs of the LOC are:

  • The assembly of delegates
  • The board of directors of the LOC
  • The Olympic Committee
  • The presidential conference
  • The LOC control post.

Finances

The LOC has funding from the following sources:

  • Funds made available by the state
  • Funds from sponsors and private individuals
  • Funds from own activities and actions
  • Contributions from the IOC and other Olympic organizations that may only be used for a specific purpose
  • Olympic Purpose Fund
  • other posts.

For the most part, the LOC is financed by government funds.
