Princess Nora of Liechtenstein

Princess Norberta (Nora) Elisabeth Maria Assunta Josefine Georgine von und zu Liechtenstein, Countess zu Rietberg, Marquesa de Mariño (born October 31, 1950 in Zurich ) is the sister of the Liechtenstein head of state, Prince Hans Adam II. She has been a member of the International Olympic since 1984 Committees .

Life

Nora von Liechtenstein was born on October 31, 1950 as the fourth of five children and the only daughter of Prince Franz Josef II von und zu Liechtenstein and his wife Countess Georgina von Wilczek in Zurich. Her eldest brother, Hans Adam II, is the current ruling prince of the country. After finishing school, she studied at the Geneva University Institute for International Studies at the University of Geneva . Subsequently, she worked for the World Bank in Washington, DC and the International Institute for Environment and Development in London. Nora von Liechtenstein was also involved in development aid projects and in institutions of the Catholic Church. From 1973 to 1989 she was President of the Girl Scout Corps of Liechtenstein Girl Scouts .

Nora von Liechtenstein's sporting activities include horse riding, diving, skiing and swimming. From 1982 to 1992 she was President of the National Olympic Committee (NOK) of Liechtenstein. She has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1984. She is also committed to sports for the disabled. She is co-founder of Special Olympics Liechtenstein (SOLie), of which she has been president since 2002. In 2006 she received the Golden Laurel Leaf for her services to Liechtenstein sport .

On June 11, 1988, Nora von Liechtenstein married the Spanish nobleman Vicente Sartorius y Cabeza de Vaca, Marqués de Mariño (1931–2002) in the St. Florin Cathedral in Vaduz . From this marriage the daughter María Teresa Sartorius y de Liechtenstein (born November 21, 1992) emerged.
