The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus ( NOC Belarus , Belarusian Нацыянальны алімпійскі камітэт Рэспублікі Беларусь ) is the National Olympic Committee in Belarus , based in Minsk . A total of 44 professional associations for Olympic sports, including 36 summer and eight winter sports, are members of the committee.
history
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the National Olympic Committee was founded on March 22, 1991 in Minsk. Almost a year later, on March 9, 1992, it was initially accepted as a temporary member by the IOC before it finally became a full member of the IOC in September 1993. The first president of the committee was Uladzimir Ryshankou , the then Belarusian sports and tourism minister. After his death in 1996, the Belarusian President Aljaksandr Lukashenka took over the presidency of the National Olympic Committee in May 1997 . Belarus took part for the first time as an independent nation in 1994 in Lillehammer on the occasion of the Winter Olympics . In 1996 the first participation in summer games followed in Atlanta . In 2019 the European Games took place in Minsk .
