The Türkiye Milli Olimpiyat Komitesi (TMOK) is the National Olympic Committee in Turkey , based in Istanbul . A total of 39 professional associations for Olympic sports, including 34 summer and five winter sports, are members of the committee.

history

In 1908 the Ottoman National Olympic Society ( Turkish: Osmanlı Milli Olimpiyat Cemiyeti ) was founded and officially recognized by the IOC three years later . The first president was Ahmet İhsan Tokgöz , who headed the committee until 1921. At the Olympic Games in 1912 , the Ottoman Empire first took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm . In 1936 the first participation in the Olympic Winter Games took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
