The cloister of Mas del Vent

The cloister of Mas del Vent (Spanish Claustro de Mas del Vent ) in Palamós , a Spanish city in Catalonia , is a reconstructed cloister ensemble in a private park.

history

The cloister was first erected around 1930 in the Ciudad Lineal in Madrid . The exact background of the construction has not been clarified. After the Spanish Civil War, the plant was sold in 1958, moved to Palamós and reassembled. Of the four galleries originally in Madrid, only two have survived in their entire height and the other two have been dismantled and in poor condition. The ensemble consists of a total of 44 capitals and is reminiscent of the cloisters of the monastery of San Juan de la Peña and the abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos .

Art History studies after 2010 have led to the conclusion that it is in the cloister to not translocated structure as in the cloister of Bonnefont or around the cloisters at the Museum The Cloisters but is that the ensemble a modern reconstruction as the cloister French Cloisters on the Bahamas , which in the case of Palamós contains mainly neo-Romanesque elements. However, individual Romanesque parts have been identified as of medieval origin of unclear origin. The origin of individual capitals from the abandoned cloisters of the old cathedral of Salamanca or the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza is discussed .
