The Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Sammarinese (short: CONS) is the national Olympic committee and the umbrella organization of the 31 sports associations with around 9,000 members in the Republic of San Marino . The headquarters are located in Serravalle in the building of the Multieventi Sport Domus sports arena .

history

On April 3, 1959, the National Olympic Committee of San Marino was founded by resolution of the Capitani Reggenti . In the same year CONS was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and in 1968 a member of the European Olympic Committee (EOC). In 1979 CONS joined the Association of the National Olympic Committee (ACNO). In June 1993 CONS was recognized by the Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens (ICMG). In 2006 the Museo dello sport e dell'olimpismo was inaugurated at the Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle .

San Marino made his debut at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome . This was followed, for example, in Barcelona ( 1992 ), Atlanta ( 1996 ), Sydney ( 2000 ), Athens ( 2004 ), Beijing ( 2008 ) and London ( 2012 ). San Marino also took part in the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck ( 1976 ), Sarajevo ( 1984 ), Calgary ( 1988 ), Albertville ( 1992 ), Lillehammer ( 1994 ), Salt Lake City ( 2002 ), Turin ( 2006 ) and Vancouver ( 2010 ) part. So far, no athlete from San Marino has won an Olympic medal.

Since 1985 CONS has been involved in the games of the small states of Europe . San Marino was also the venue for the games in 1985 and 2001. The athletes from San Marino achieved 55 gold, 93 silver and 118 bronze medals at these games (as of 2014).
