The Makedonski Olimpiski Komitet (MOK, Macedonian Македонски Олимписки Комитет ) is the National Olympic Committee in North Macedonia with its seat in Skopje .

history

After independence from Yugoslavia , North Macedonian athletes who did not yet have their own NOK started as independent participants at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , but the Makedonski Olimpiski Komitet was founded in the same year . In 1993 it was officially recognized by the IOC . In 1996 North Macedonia made its Olympic debut at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta . In 1998 North Macedonia also took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in Nagano . In 2015 North Macedonia was also a participant in the first European Games in Baku . In addition, the committee is a member of the Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens and is therefore entitled to compete in the Mediterranean Games . Until the name change on February 13, 2019, North Macedonia used the name Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) due to the dispute over the name of Macedonia with Greece . The chairman of the committee is Vasil Tupurkovski , who has held the office since the MOK was founded.
