Duncanville is a city in Dallas County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is a suburb of Dallas , west of the intersection of Interstate 20 and US Highway 67 in the south of the county in northeastern Texas.
history
Settlement of the area began in 1845 when an Illinois native Crawford Trees bought several thousand acres south of Camp Dallas. In 1855 the Little Bethel Male and Female School was built, which also served as a church until 1881. In 1880 the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railway reached the settlement and built a train station named Duncan Switch after one of the board members of the railroad company. In 1882 the resulting place was renamed Duncanville. Most of the village was destroyed in a fire in 1884. At the beginning of the 20th century, the population rose from 113 to over 300 in 1933. During the second half of the 20th century, Duncanville developed into a suburb of Dallas.

According to the 2000 census, 36,081 people in 12,896 households and 10,239 families lived here. The population density was 1,233.9 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 63.90% White, 24.76% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.99% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, and 6.83% other ethnic groups. About 2.11% were mixed race and 15.30% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,896 households, 38.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3% of them were married couples living together. 16.1% were single mothers and 20.6% were non-families. 17.6% of all households were single households and there were people living in 5.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.15.
28.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5% 18 to 24, 27.7% 25 to 44, 26.1% 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 90.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 85.0 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 51,654 , and the median income for a family is $ 57,064. Males had a median income of $ 39,199 versus $ 30,145 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,924. 6.1% of the population and 3.9% of families are below the poverty line. 8.2% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 3.6% were 65 or older.
