Bingo Asante Merriex (born November 24, 1980 in Wichita Falls , Texas ) is an American basketball player . After completing his studies in his native US state, Merriex plays as a professional in Europe . In the basketball Bundesliga 2005/06 he was the best rebounder in the top German division and achieved an average of a double-double for the WALTER Tigers Tübingen. In addition to stations in Lebanon, Italy and the Ukraine, Merriex played in his career mainly for clubs from Germany, France and Belgium in the top two divisions. Since 2014 he has been playing for Shimane Susanoo Magic in the bj league , the top Japanese division.

Career

Merriex studied at the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and played for the college team called Horned Frogs in the NCAA Division I. He is one of the most successful scorers and rebounders of all time at this college, in particular he is still the fourth most successful three-point thrower of his team.

After graduating, he first played in the summer league United States Basketball League with a team from his home state before playing a season in Lebanon . The following summer he returned to the USBL before he signed a contract in Imola, Italy with Andrea Costa in the second division LegADue . After one season he moved to the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) in Tübingen for the Tigers . After a coach change in January 2006, the Tigers managed to stay under their coach Aaron McCarthy in the 2005/06 season , in which Merriex had a significant share with over 16 points and a good 10 rebounds per game and thus a double-double on average. He was also the best rebounder in the league overall this season. After that he moved to the Belgian Mons in Hainaut , where he met the resident club including in the Eurocup Basketball was active. Nevertheless, he was not particularly successful there, as his shares were significantly lower, so that he refreshed his contacts to Tübingen and was brought back by coach McCarthy in the following season. His role was slightly changed in the second season in Tübingen, although he is a very athletic and powerful forward with over 110 kilograms, the majority of his throws in the 2007/08 season were three-point throws. His statistics were also not as brilliant as two seasons before with 11 points and almost 8 rebounds on average.

For the 2008/09 season Merriex moved to the French Atlantic coast and played for STB Le Havre in the LNB Pro A and once again in the Eurocup. He then moved to Aalst in Flanders in 2009 , where he was trained by former BBL coach Brad Dean . In the 2010/11 season he returned to the BBL shortly before the start of the season and was hired by EnBW Ludwigsburg, the regional rival of his former Tübingen club. At the end of November 2010, his contract ended and was not renewed, after which Merriex moved to the Ukrainian Superleague. In the 2011/12 season he will play again in Belgium for the club from Pepinster under coach McCarthy. However, the playing time was disappointing and they were knocked off bottom of the table with five wins from 32 games. Then Merriex moved back to the French first division to Stade Lorrain Université Club from Nancy . Nancy clearly missed the place in the play-offs for the championship and saved herself with a win ahead of the last non-relegation place. After the end of the season, Merriex did not get a new contract before signing an initially limited contract with German second division club rent4office from Nuremberg in December . He then went to Japan and has been playing with Shimane Susanoo Magic since 2014.
