Promotion to Serie A in 1998

Andrea Costa Imola Basket is an Italian basketball club from Imola . The association, founded in 1967 , is named after the politician Andrea Costa from Imola ; however, the professional men's team usually operates under its own sponsor name . In the 2012/13 season they played under the name Aget Nature Imola in the second highest Italian division LegADue .

history

In 1986 the men's team rose to the fourth-highest division, Serie B2, where they immediately achieved the championship and promotion to Serie B1. After eight seasons, in 1995 they were promoted to what was then the second highest division, Serie A2. After the PalaRuggi hall was not approved for the second highest division, they played in a tent construction on the grounds of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari . Only in 2012, after adjusting the admission criteria, was the club able to return to the local PalaRuggi hall for home games. After coach Francesco Vitucci was signed in 1996, President Gianpero Domenicali announced a plan for medium-term promotion to the top division. This succeeded already after the 1997/98 season, when one of the two promotion places in the final series against the main round first Basket Livorno could secure in the play-offs of the A2 series .

After promotion to Lega Basket Serie A , Andrea Costa Imola had to change home again and played his home games from then on in the PalaCattani in neighboring Faenza . In the first first division season 1998/99 they reached a ninth place after the main round and moved through a qualifying round in the play-off quarter-final series for the Italian championship, in which they were subject to the main round first and regional rivals team system Bologna . In the following season, the main round placement of the previous year was confirmed, but this time they were eliminated in the qualifying round of the play-offs. In the 2000/01 season, however, the Imola team only separated the better direct comparison from the last place in the table after the main round. As a table penultimate one then benefited from the withdrawal of the license for the league rivals RB Montecatini Terme and was able to achieve relegation again. Coach Vitucci moved to league rivals Benetton Treviso and in the 2001/02 season relegation from the top division as bottom of the table could no longer be avoided. This also marked the end of Gianpero Domenicali's presidency, which had lasted since 1990.

After relegation from Serie A in 2002, they played in LegADue , which had replaced Serie A2 as the second highest division in 2001 and organized itself through a league association of the same name. After you had just reached the play-offs for promotion in the 2002/03 season as a relegated team, you found yourself consistently in the lower table positions at the end of the season in the following seasons except for the 2005/06 season. In 2004, 2007 and 2009 one reached the league as the table penultimate only through license withdrawals of other teams. After having missed the promotion play-offs comparatively narrowly in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, they were again second to bottom in the 2011/12 season, but this was not a relegation place in the league reduced by one team. Although they played again only with 15 teams in the 2012/13 season, this time they were bottom of the table and were relegated.
