Pietro Aradori (born December 9, 1988 in Brescia , Lombardy ) is an Italian basketball player . Aradori won the Italian championship twice with Montepaschi Siena and was a national player in the 2013 European Championship finals . He currently plays for the Italian club Virtus Bologna.

Career

Aradori grew up in the youth teams from Lumezzane and at Unione Cestistica from Casalpusterlengo , where he initially played together with the later NBA professional Danilo Gallinari . In the 2005/06 season Aradori had first appearances in the men's team, which was then playing in the third-tier Serie B. For the 2006/07 season, the junior national player and second-best scorer in the U18 European Championship moved one division up to Andrea Costa from Imola in the second professional division Legadue . Imola, who was sixth after the main round in the previous year, only reached the penultimate place in the table at the end of the season and managed to stay in the league only through the withdrawal of other teams. At the age of 18, Aradori was one of the most accurate shooters in the league and was signed by the record champions Olimpia Armani from Milan for the 2007/08 season . In the top division Lega Basket Serie A , however, he then had certain teething problems and came up with almost ten minutes playing time per game. At the end of February 2008, he moved to league rivals Virtus Lottomatica in the capital Rome , where he was also only a supplementary player until the end of the season. In the play-off final series for the championship, Rome lost to defending champion Montepaschi Siena.

For the 2008/09 season Aradori moved to Angelico from Biella in Piedmont , who improved to seventh place and only reached the play-offs for the championship for the second time in the club's history. In the first play-off round, Biella was able to win the last two games and surprisingly defeat runners-up Rome, only to be eliminated in the semi-final series with the sixth in the main round against another former team of the young Aradori. With a playing time of almost 16 minutes per game and an average of almost seven points, he was now an important part of the rotation of the players at the age of 20. He was now part of the extended squad of the Italian men's national team . In the following season Aradori scored almost 17 points per game and with 469 points was already the top scorer in Serie A with the most points scored in the regular season and was named the best young player (U22) in the league. In the Eurocup 2009/10 the team won four of six games in the preliminary round and the direct comparison against the eventual German champions Brose Baskets , but a high away defeat at ČEZ Nymburk meant an early exit from the competition in a three-way comparison. In the national championship, Biella had not been able to compensate equally for the loss of Reece Gaines and James Gist , who had left the club, and with the Italian experienced German national player Sven Schultze only reached the penultimate place in the table, in the league reduced by one team to relegation was enough.

For the 2010/11 season Aradori was committed by the serial champion Montepaschi from Siena , with whom he also returned to the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2010/11 , in which he had his first appearances for Milan in the 2007/08 season. The team played a good season in this competition and defeated the former finalists Olympiacos in the quarter-final play-offs . In the Final Four tournament, however, they lost in the semifinals against the eventual title winner Panathinaikos Athens and could only secure third place in the "small final". In national competitions, the team defended the double from winning the championship and cup competitions from the previous year. This also succeeded in the following season, when the team again met Olympiacos in the quarter-final play-offs of the ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 , but this time they prevailed and later won the title in this competition. Despite good throwing rates, Aradori's playing time in the top European team was less than 20 minutes per game and for the following season 2012/13 he moved to the cup finalists and traditional club from Cantù at the foot of the Alps. With the team he won the Supercoppa at the beginning of the season and reached the qualification for the ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 in front of a home crowd , in which the team was eliminated after the preliminary round after three wins in ten games. Also in the championship you only came in seventh place in the play-offs, in which you could defeat the second Banco di Sardegna Sassari in seven games in the first round . In the same number of games, however, they lost the semi-final series against Virtus Acea Rome. At the European Championship final tournament in 2013 , Aradori was now represented in a final squad of the men's national team for the first time when the team convinced in the preliminary round and won all five games. Then only one victory in the last group game of the second round against defending champions Spain and after further defeats in the quarter-finals and the placement games they missed participation in the 2014 World Basketball Championship . In the Eurocup 2013/14 Cantù failed very narrowly and under dramatic circumstances with a point difference in the last group game of the intermediate round in a direct comparison against the German representative ratiopharm Ulm and was eliminated. In the championship came into the play-offs with a better starting position as third, lost all three games in the first play-off round and remained without a win when they were eliminated again against runners-up Rome.

For the 2014/15 season, Aradori went abroad for the first time and switched to the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi for the local runner-up Galatasaray from Istanbul . He only stayed there until December 2014, before Aradori, like Nathan Jawai , dissolved his contract with the financially troubled club. He then moved to Club Estudiantes in Madrid .
