The Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro (FIP) is an association that organizes the Italian basketball championship. The seat of the FIP is in Rome .

founding

It was founded on November 2, 1921 in Milan as Federazione Italiana Basket-Ball . Immediately after it was founded, 10 clubs joined it. Some of these teams have already participated in two championships organized by the Federazione Ginnastica d'Italia .

In 1925 the name was changed to Federazione Italiana Palla al Cesto and in 1930 to Federazione Italiana Palla al Canestro (later Pallacanestro ). In 1930 the Italian women's basketball championship was organized for the first time, FIP recognized by the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano and the headquarters moved to Rome.

From 1970 the FIP also organized the Lega Basket Serie A and since 1976 also the women's Serie A1.

Championships

The FIP organizes the Lega Baskets Serie A , LegADue , Serie B and Serie C for men. The series A1, series A2 and series B for women.

It also organizes the Italian Cup, the Italian Basketball Cup .
