Jawai doesn't feel well taken with these top names in his way of playing and rejects them.

Career

Jawai, who comes from a family of Torres Strait Islanders , began playing basketball very late at the age of 16 at the suggestion of Danny Morseu , who, as a member of this ethnic group, was a two-time Australian Olympic basketball player. Jawai, who had previously played other sports, made rapid progress and after two years already played with the Cairns Marlins in the Australian Basketball Association (ABA). In the following three years he had a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and also tried his hand at a "Community College" in the USA . The study at Midland College in Midland (Texas) , whose college team Chaparrals had won the championship in the "National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association" (NJCAA) in 2007, but he broke off after a short time and became a professional with the Taipans from Cairns in the NBL Australasia . Here he was named " Rookie of the Year" 2008 as the successor to Joe Ingles .

In the NBA Draft of 2008 he was selected in 41st position by the Indiana Pacers, who passed him on to the Toronto Raptors in a player swap. After unusual cardiac activity was observed in medical tests, he was not allowed back into competitive sports by the Raptors until mid-December 2008. He made his debut in the highest endowed professional league in January 2009 when he lost to the Detroit Pistons . He is considered the first indigenous player from the fifth continent in the NBA. A month later, after six missions, he was given over to the Idaho Stampede in the NBA Development League (D-League) in order to collect more match practice there. In the summer of 2009 he lost with the Australian national team "Boomers" the finals of the Oceania Basketball Championship 2009 against neighboring New Zealand on a two-way leg in a direct comparison. Previously, he came in a complicated player swap, which included four teams in the NBA, first to the Dallas Mavericks , who later passed him on to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the Timberwolves he came in the NBA 2009/10 on 39 missions with an average of ten minutes before they also gave him in the D-League to the Sioux Falls Skyforce in March 2010. After the season ended, Jawai's NBA career was over.

In the 2010/11 season he played for KK Partizan in the Serbian capital Belgrade and won the national double 2011 championship and cup with the Serbian series champion. In the Adriatic League you could also defend your title in 2011, with Jawai as “ Most Valuable Player ” (MVP) of the “ Final Four ” tournament. In the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2010/11 they reached the intermediate round of the 16 best teams, but where they only achieved one victory in six games and were eliminated. For the following season 2011/12 Jawai moved to Russia to the ULEB Eurocup winner and Euroleague newcomer UNICS from Kazan . UNICS reached the quarter-final play-offs at its premiere in the ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 , where they lost in three games against the Spanish champions FC Barcelona Regal. While they disappointed in the Russian PBL 2011/12 , they reached the final game in the VTB United League 2011/12 , the Eastern European counterpart to the Adria League, which was lost to PBK CSKA Moscow .

Jawai, who was still part of the extended squad of the Australian national team in May 2012, did not make it into the final Olympic squad despite the injury of Andrew Bogut . He was then signed by the Spanish champions FC Barcelona Regal, who had previously defeated his former club UNICS in the Euroleague quarter-finals and where he played again with his national team colleague Joe Ingles, whom he already knew from AIS. With Barcelona he won the " Copa del Rey " cup competition . Despite an injury, he really wanted to take part in the Final Four tournament of the ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 , after having been awarded the MVP as the player of the day with the greatest effectiveness during the regular season and in the quarter-final play-offs . But he only played a minute in the semi-final defeat against national rivals Real Madrid . The club then announced the end of the season for Jawais due to injury. Also the final series of the championship was lost against the eternal competitor Real and Jawai joined the Turkish champions Galatasaray from Istanbul for the following season . After signing there for the 2014/15 season, he canceled his contract in December and moved to Andorra .
