history

TV3 OB van

The broadcasts of TV3 began on a test basis on September 10, 1983 and went into regular operation on January 16, 1984. The station was the second autonomous broadcaster in Spain after the Basque broadcaster ETB . In early 1985, TV3 expanded its reach to Andorra , Northern Catalonia , the Balearic Islands and the region around Valencia . A year later, the station opened its headquarters in Sant Joan Despí , near Barcelona .

Since 1987, TV3 has been broadcasting the original sound for most series and films in addition to the Catalan sound . For this purpose, the two-channel sound system was used first and later NICAM .

In 1988 a process of decentralization began and each of the four Catalan provinces is now supported with its own regional program, the so-called Telenotícies Comarques.

DVB-T was introduced in 2002 and later the 16: 9 format in some programs. In addition, a test run for HD television ( HDTV ) started on April 23, 2007 , making it the first channel in Spain to broadcast in both formats.

TV3 repeats some programs on its own information channel 3/24. In addition, selected programs from TV3 and other TVC channels are shown simultaneously or time-shifted on the Catalan international TV station TV3CAT (formerly TVCi) on Astra .

TV3 currently

TV3 is the market leader in Catalonia. The most popular programs include the news (telenotícies). The daily soap El cor de la ciutat (The Heart of the City) is the most watched entertainment program in Catalonia, especially among the female audience (28–33%, up to 40%), followed by the political satire Polònia (28%).

criticism

In the course of Catalonia's striving for independence and the resulting crisis in Catalonia, in particular , TV3 and its sister station, the news channel 3/24, have come under criticism from the international media for being an exclusive mouthpiece for independence advocates and failing to fulfill their public service mandate to provide balanced reporting . The French daily Le Monde writes about:

«Voilà des mois que la télévision publique catalane, TV3, matraque une propagande indépendantiste simpliste et mensongère. Et des mois qu'elle a recours à une rhetorique de victimisation qui veut faire croire, de façon grotesque, que la Catalogne est victime d'un retour de la dictature franquiste. Ce n'est pas le cas. »

“For months, the public broadcaster TV3 has been spreading simplistic and mendacious propaganda; For months he has been using a rhetoric of harassment that grotesquely tries to make people believe that Catalonia is the victim of a return to the Franco dictatorship - this is by no means the case "
