The 2009 Oceania Basketball Championship , the 19th Oceania Basketball Championship , took place between August 23 and 25, 2009 in Sydney , Australia and Wellington , New Zealand . It was the first time in the history of the tournament that both countries hosted the championship. The winner was New Zealand , which won the title for the third time. In the series, Australia could be beaten thanks to the better overall point score. It was only the second time in the history of the tournament that Australia had to admit defeat to New Zealand in the series.
