The 1971 Oceania Basketball Championship , the first Oceania Basketball Championship , took place between August 7 and 14, 1971 in Auckland , Rotorua and Christchurch , New Zealand , which hosted the championship for the first time. The winner was the national team of Australia , which for the first time, undefeated, could win the title against New Zealand in the best-of-three series.
