The 1978 Oceania Basketball Championship , the third Oceania Basketball Championship , took place between April 1 and 8, 1978 in Auckland , Lower Hutt and Christchurch , New Zealand , which hosted the championship for the second time. The winner was the national team of Australia , which won the title for the third time. In the series New Zealand could be beaten 2-1 wins. For the first time, New Zealand has managed to beat Australia in one game at the Oceania Basketball Championships.
