The 1999 Oceania Basketball Championship , the 14th Oceania Basketball Championship , took place between September 30 and October 2, 1999 in Auckland , New Zealand , which hosted the championship for the ninth time. The winner was the host who won the title for the first time. In the final Guam could be clearly beaten. Since Australia, as host of the 2000 Summer Olympics, was automatically selected for the Olympic tournament, the national team of Australia did not take part in the tournament, which meant that for the first time since the tournament was founded in 1971 with New Zealand, a team other than Australia was basketball champions. It was Guam's first participation in the tournament.
