The Salt Lake City Stars are an NBA G-League basketball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team plays its home games in the Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena. Since 2014 they are the farm team the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

history

The team was originally founded as Idaho Stampede in 1997 and was part of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) until 2006 . 2001 one led the division, but the season was stopped early. In 2004, the Stampede reached the CBA finals, but were subject to the Dakota Wizards . At the end of the 2005/2006 season, the team's owners announced that the Stampede would switch to the NBA Development League for the 2006/2007 season . There the Stampede were integrated into the league as the new farm team of the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets . After the dissolution of the Utah Flash in 2011, the Utah Jazz was assigned the Stampede as a new farm team. However, this only lasted one season before the 2012 Stampede became the sole farm team of the Trail Blazers.

The team's most successful season so far was 2007/2008. The Stampede were able to advance to the finals of the championship and won the championship against the Austin Toros .

For the 2010/2011 season, the Stampede were able to sign the former NBA All-Star Antoine Walker , who had previously played successfully for the Boston Celtics , Miami Heat , Memphis Grizzlies , Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks in the NBA.

After seven years, the Blazers gave up the Stampede. In June 2014 they were taken over by the Utah Jazz as their own farm team. The Jazz have also been the owners of the team since March 2015.

For the 2016/17 season, the company moved to Salt Lake City and was renamed Salt Lake City Stars. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, the Austrian coach Martin Schiller took over the management of the team.
