history

IBA

1995-2001 played the team as Dakota Wizards in the International Basketball Association . In the last season of this league, the Wizards won the championship.

CBA

After the IBA was dissolved, the Wizards moved to the Continental Basketball Association , where they ended their first regular season with 26 games won and only 14 lost , defeating the Rockford Lightning 116: 109 in the finals that year and becoming champions.

In the next season they went as favorites in the title race, but lost in the playoff semi-finals against the later champions of this season, namely against the Yakima Sun Kings .

The following season was the best in the team's history, it ended the regular season with 34 won and 14 lost games and was again champions with a win in the finals against the Idaho Stampede .

After this season, coach Dave Joerger moved to the Sioux Falls Skyforce . The then assistant coach Casey Owens became head coach. They made it back to the G-League play- offs with a good record , but were eliminated after 5 games against their first-round opponent Sioux Falls Skyforce.

The next season went bad for the Wizards, with 19 won and 29 lost games they did not reach the playoffs, which caused coach Dave Bliss , who had replaced Owens before the season, to leave the team.

NBA G-League

It wasn't certain, but on April 1, it was announced the team would be staying at their arena for three years, and on April 6, it announced its move to the NBA G-League. In the first G-League season, it defeated the Colorado 14ers in overtime in the final .

For the 2009/10 season Rory White was entrusted with the coaching office. In his first season he made it with the team in the playoffs, but not in his second.

For the 2011/12 season, the Golden State Warriors bought the team, making it the fourth G-League franchise to be wholly owned by an NBA team. The wizards adopted the colors of the warriors. Nate Bjorkgren has been appointed coach.

For the 2012/13 season, the Warriors moved the team to Santa Cruz . In addition to the colors, the name of the franchise was also adjusted during the relocation and the team was renamed Santa Cruz Warriors to create a direct reference to the Golden State Warriors. In the first season in Santa Cruz, the Warriors were able to qualify for the playoffs and moved into the finals for the championship of the G-League in April 2013.
