history

Already from 1989 to 1992 there was a CBA - Franchise named San Jose Jammers , which in the season 1991/92 as Bakersfield Jammers played in Bakersfield. At the end of this season, however, the Jammers were discontinued.

Today's Suns were newly inducted into the NBA Gatorade League for the 2006/2007 season as the Bakersfield Jam . The league had previously announced that a new franchise would be established in Bakersfield. For the 2007/2008 season, fans could vote on whether the team should get a new name. You could choose from the names: Bakersfield Desperados , Bakersfield Roughnecks , Bakersfield Oilers or Bakersfield Jam . The fans decided that the name Bakersfield Jam should continue to exist.

Because of the small fan base in Bakersfield, there were always rumors that the jam would stop playing. But these were immediately denied by the management of the team.

With just 420 seats, the jams play in the smallest hall in the league. The Jam Events Center was built in 2009 and has been the training and venue for the Jam ever since. Previously, the jams played their games in the much larger Rabobank Arena . Due to the relatively small fan base, the Jam can save up to 500,000 US dollars per season according to their own statements  . In 2012, the non-profit hospital group Dignity Health became the name sponsor of the small hall.

Since their inception, the jams have been " farm teams " from various NBA clubs . From 2011 to 2014, they were assigned to the Los Angeles Clippers , Phoenix Suns , Toronto Raptors , Utah Jazz, and the Atlanta Hawks for player placement and assignment. For the 2014/15 season, the Phoenix Suns will take over the Jam as the sole partner, thus becoming the Suns' exclusive farm team. In 2016, the company moved to Prescott Valley and renamed Bakersfield Jam to Northern Arizona Suns.
