Jared "Air" Newson (born September 26, 1984 in Belleville , Illinois ) is an American basketball player.

Career

Until the end of the 2006/07 season he was under contract with the Bayer Giants Leverkusen . There he played in the position of small forward and was also in the starting five of the Giants. Before he came to Leverkusen, he played at the University of Tennessee at Martin (USA), where he led his team in points (18.8 points per game). Because of these achievements Newson was committed in 2006 by the NBA team Memphis Grizzlies for the Summer Pro-Am League. In the 2006/07 season he developed into one of the top performers of the Bayer Giants and even became an All-Star . He also won the German Dunking Championships at the BBL All-Star-Day 2007 .

In the summer of 2007 he played again in the NBA Summer League for the Dallas Mavericks team and achieved an average of 2.8 points per game in 5 games. On October 1, 2007, he received a free agent contract from Dallas and was part of the 18-player squad of the Mavericks, with whom he completed the preseason games. On October 24th, however, he was released from the Dallas team.

After a few weeks that he spent in Poland, Jared Newson finished the 2007/2008 season with the Cairns Taipans in the Australian NBL (National Basketball League). In July 2008, he signed a two-year contract with Brose Baskets Bamberg, returning to the basketball league. However, he could never prevail in Bamberg and spent most of the season on the bench. In summer 2009 it was finally agreed to terminate the contract. Newson moved back to the US and signed a contract with the Bakersfield Jam in the NBA Development League for the 2009/2010 season. In January 2010 he moved to the Sioux Falls Skyforce as part of a trade .

After his engagements in the NBA D-League he moved back to Europe and has since played for Joensuun Kataja in Finland (2010 to 2012) and Hyères-Toulon Var Basket and Saint-Vallier Basket Drôme in France. After his contract in France, he returned to Joensuu in early 2014 .
