Kataja Basket Club is a Finnish basketball club from Joensuu .

history

The Kataja association was founded in 1900. Basketball has been played at Kataja since 1955, initially in lower-class Finnish basketball leagues, before the long-awaited promotion to the highest league, the Korisliiga, succeeded in 2001. There they finished third directly in the first season and won the Finnish basketball cup, the Suomencup. In the years that followed, the club established itself as a top player in Finnish club basketball, won the trophy two more times and was runner-up four times, most recently in 2012.

In the 2012/13 season Kataja took part in the EuroChallenge , where surprisingly and as the first Finnish club to reach the quarter-finals. There they were subject to BCM Gravelines .
