The Canton Charge are an NBA G-League team based in Canton , Ohio .
history
The team was founded as Huntsville Flight as a founding member of the NBA Development League in 2001 in the city of Huntsville , Alabama . They played their home games at the Von Braun Center and reached the D-League Finals in their third season, where they were subject to the Asheville Altitude . In 2005 they left the city. Before the 2017/2018 season, the development league was renamed the NBA G-League.
The following season they played as the Albuquerque Thunderbirds . In 2006 they became champions of the Development League by defeating the Fort Worth Flyers 119-108 in the final. They stayed there until the 2009/10 season before moving to Rio Rancho , New Mexico for the next season and forming the New Mexico Thunderbirds team .
On July 7, 2011, it was announced that the team would be moving to Canton , Ohio again after the Cleveland Cavaliers bought the team. Alex Jensen has been named her first trainer and her logo and colors were released on October 13th. On October 20th the team's first players were named: Keith McLeod and Jamine Peterson and on October 25th the new jerseys were shown to the public. In this season's D-League draft, the batch selected Tyrell Biggs in the first round .
