Rio Rancho is the largest city in Sandoval County in the US state of New Mexico . It had 87,521 inhabitants on an area of 190.4 km² (as of 2010). Rio Rancho borders Albuquerque to the south, Bernalillo to the north, and Corrales to the east . The city lies on the Rio Grande .
history
The area around today's Rio Rancho was settled by the Spaniards in 1710, while the city was founded in 1981 due to the ever-increasing settlement. At the end of 2006 the city center was restructured and an arena and a new town hall building were built.

The population increased by 69% from 2000 to the end of 2010. This makes Rio Rancho one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. With a population of 87,521, it is the third largest city in New Mexico after Albuquerque and Las Cruces .

economy
The Intel Corporation has approximately 7,000 employees by far the largest employer in Rio Rancho; and Hewlett-Packard as employs 1,300 people. 1400 staff work for the Rio Rancho Public Schools . In addition to the service and retail sectors, some government agencies also offer jobs.
