The Landesmuseum Bergbau Südtirol is a museum on the subject of mining in South Tyrol . It is part of the corporation of the South Tyrolean Provincial Museums and spread over four locations.
Locations
The museum operates exhibition areas and mines at four different locations in the rear Ahrntal and on the Schneeberg between the Ridnauntal and Passeier .
On the Schneeberg, one of the former highest-altitude mines in Europe, the State Museum has the completely preserved production chain of a mine . The following structures are located here:
- The "BergbauWelt Ridnaun Schneeberg" (location: ⊙ ) shows the surface ore transport system, unique in Europe, as well as the completely preserved processing in an area of around 1400 m behind Maiern in Ridnaun ( Ratschings municipality ) up to an altitude of 2700 m . From here, the mining areas on the Passeir side can be explored in various tours below and above ground.
- The “Adventure Mine Schneeberg Passeier” (location: ⊙ ) with the ore mining area that is over 800 years old is located on the Passeir side of the Schneeberg near Rabenstein (municipality of Moos in Passeier ). It is only accessible for hikers. In the area around the snow mountain hut ( 2355 m ) you can see the former mining village visit St. Martin, once the highest permanent settlement in the Alps, and tunnels - recorded tracks do.
In the rear of the Ahrntal the mining museum has the following locations:
- The "Bergbaumuseum Kornkasten Steinhaus" (location: ⊙ ) is located in the granary of the former copper mine in Prettau, which is located in Steinhaus ( Ahrntal municipality ). The museum serves to present the Enzenberg collection, which can be used to trace the history of the mine.
- The "Prettau show mine" (location: ⊙ ) offers a tour of the St. Ignaz tunnel at 1500 m altitude in Prettau by means of a mine train . Right next to the show mine is the “Prettau Climatic Gallery”, a disused mine tunnel, which is suitable for treating respiratory problems due to its microclimate and therefore serves to relax and recuperate the visitors.
