South Tyrolean state museums
The South Tyrolean State Museums are an amalgamation of ten public museums in South Tyrol that have been established since 1976 . It is part of the South Tyrolean provincial administration (Landesmuseen operation) in Bolzano .
The first corporation of South Tyrolean Provincial Museums was founded in 2003 and was incorporated into the South Tyrolean Provincial Museums in 2010 , which is affiliated to the Museums department of the Provincial Administration. Initially, the institution took care of coordination, personnel, marketing, public relations and accounting for eight of the museums. In 2014 the Museum of Cultural and Regional History - until then an independent body due to the peculiarity of its seat at Castle Tyrol - was added to the central administration, followed in 2017 by the Fortezza Fortress .
The following institutions belong to the association:
- the South Tyrolean State Museum for cultural and regional history at Castle Tyrol in Tirolo near Merano ,
- the South Tyrolean Archeology Museum in Bozen with the glacier mummy Ötzi ,
- the South Tyrol Museum of Nature in Bozen with the largest marine aquarium between Salzburg and Genoa,
- the South Tyrolean State Museum for Folklore in Dietenheim near Bruneck with its outdoor area,
- the Touriseum at Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano,
- the Ladin Museum at Thurn Castle on Ladin history and culture in St. Martin in Thurn with an outdoor seat in St. Kassian ,
- the South Tyrolean Wine Museum in Kaltern ,
- the South Tyrolean State Museum for Hunting and Fishing at Wolfsthurn Castle in Ratschings ,
- the South Tyrolean Mining Museum with its four locations in Ridnaun , Prettau , Steinhaus and Passeier and
- the fortress Franzensfeste .
